On this Thanksgiving day, I would like to do more than just generically say "Happy Thanksgiving". Anybody can say those words.
But I feel compelled to ask: To whom are you offering your thanks on this Thanksgiving?
Those of you who listen to my radio show know that I am a Christian, and that my emphasis is walking in obedience to God's commandments for us. These are not suggestions or recommendations. They are commandments. If you truly believe in God Almighty, and understand the sacrifice He sent to ransom YOU, then you must surely take it to heart when Jesus said: "If you love me, keep my commandments".
Lately it seems people have tossed aside the concept of God being the supreme authority in their lives, and instead have rebelled and chosen to make up their own set of rules for themselves, and have largely done so so that they can just live life to please themselves. Some have chosen to be their own gods, and some have decided just to live as if there were no God.
And to them, I issue this challenging question once again: To whom are you giving thanks today?
Our mission at www.jjmccartney.com and the radio show is to walk in obedience, speak boldly, and to contend for the faith in Jesus Christ, who was the Word of God made flesh.
Our mission boils down to this: Proclaim the gospel without shame or apology, and reach out in love and in truth, and to stand on the authority of the Word of God, as ambassadors for Jesus.
It's a mission we take very seriously, and it brings us great joy to walk in obedience to God, and to receive His richest blessings, which are His constant presence through the Holy Spirit, and the family and friends, and brethren in Christ whom God has sent to us over the years.
Truly, it is our brethren in Christ that constitutes our true family this Thanksgiving. I am thankful to God, and His only Son, Jesus, for the brethren sent to us, for the fellowship we share, and for the faithfulness of God's providence for us, as he truly gives us this day our daily bread.
God's kept promise is affirmation of our faith in Jesus, and every day He delivers Him to us through His Spirit.
For those of you who do not know what I am talking about, I pray you will come to know a right relationship with God, through His Son, and that you too can learn how God's rich blessings can flow to you only as you live obediently, not serving your flesh, but obeying God.
And by rich blessings, I am not referring in any manner to how many dollars you have, nor how much Gold, jewels or other valuables you possess. I refer only to the joy, the peace, and the anticipation of His presence in your daily life.
There is no blessing for which I am more thankful.
